Poetry: Hello, Sadness

Hello, Sadness

I know why you are here.

I’d ask you to come in and sit

by the fire but I know you

would rather walk. Can I get you

a mug and wrap you in a scarf

so big it could be a blanket?

I’ll walk with you, Sadness

into this canyon

of creeping shadows

and chilly sand.

I hear you, Sadness

though you don’t want to talk

I’ll walk with you toward the

darkest day and on the longest night

you won’t be alone anymore

because I’m here, Sadness.

I’m sorry for pushing you away.
